NOVA Pentagon the five-sided paragliding reserve parachute with high oscillation damping.

A new modern paragliding reserve featuring rapid deployment, outstanding pendulum stability, and a low sink rate, constructed with high-quality materials. Designed to be light and compact.

NOVA PENTAGON

Safety through innovation: the PENTAGON parachute stands out with its innovative design and high-quality materials. After deployment, the PENTAGON provides a rapid opening, immediate oscillation damping, and a low sink rate. The result is a rescue system you can completely trust in any situation.

Five sides ensure high pendular stability. The five-sided shape is self-stabilising: if the PENTAGON experiences a pendular impulse towards a corner, the restoring force will automatically act in the opposite direction. Opposite a corner is an edge, where the airflow significantly differs, counteracting unwelcome oscillations. The resultant pendular stability is excellent.

Quick to open but slow to descend. The sink rate is extraordinarily low: during certification, with maximum load, the Pentagon 120 had a sink rate of 5.2 m/s.

Five corner vents enable quick opening. Five corner vents aid in inflation during the opening process. The opening is quicker and more dependable than with conventional parachutes. This is not only crucial when close to the ground, but it also minimises the risk of the parachute becoming tangled in the paraglider's lines before opening.

Equal suspension line lengths ensure straightforward packing. A key requirement for quick deployment is that the parachute is packed neatly. The PENTAGON is quick and straightforward to pack. The base and centre lines share uniform lengths and equal spacing from one another. They are also colour-coded, which minimises the risk of packing errors.

Intensive testing

  • The PENTAGON was designed in collaboration with Urs Haari of High Adventure, who drew on his experience of over 300 deployments with various parachutes.
  • NOVA thoroughly tested the PENTAGON during the various design phases, concentrating on tests with the paraglider attached. In practice, this scenario is much more common than the certification tests where the paraglider is released. The practical tests were supported by flow simulations of different designs. Ultimately, the PENTAGON stood out as the best of all solutions.
