  • $5,800.00 AUD

Certification: EN/LTF-B

BGD BASE 2 has been regarded as the best XC mile cruncher for the long flights in EN B class. Top of the class performance with a high level of accessibility so you can stay in the air for the whole day and go hard on those epic XC days.

BGD Base 2 is the new paraglider from Bruce Goldsmith with a confidence-inspiring design. High-B paragliders are paramount in a pilot's progression. The high-B pilot is starting to push the limits of the sport, experiencing strong sensations and achieving some of their goals. This is why we designed Base 2 to boost confidence by maximising flying sensations and feedback. The graphic design is inspired by Aztecs and colour names reflect nature's elements the Ice, Earth and Fire in a stunning colour combination!

BGD BASE 2 - Confidence Inspiring on Many Levels

  • 50 million iterations of fluid/structural analysis
  • Multi-reefing system
  • Speed riser C-Steering

More Distance, More Fun, the Base 2 inspires the confidence to fly further and expand your limits. It’s a cross-country wing you’ll feel at home on right away – love at first flight!

The BGD BASE 2 is a confidence-inspiring wing, accessible high-B with top-of-class performance. Base 2 is a new design with an aspect ratio of 5.7 and a new arc. A lot of work has gone into a new multi-reefing brake system that has given it super-sweet handling and a clean trailing edge. The C-steering system has been redesigned with an additional ‘speed riser’. This links into the speed system and makes the C-steering light and easy to use.

REVIEWS
Overall, I can say it has a very balanced turning ability, with no diving in turns and relatively a flat turn. In weak thermals, it seems that the Base 2 has a very good float ability, that enables it to climb really well in the weak stuff even loaded at max weight! Talking a bit about the pleasure in flight, I can say that the Base 2 handling and brake authority allows a newcomer to the high B category to understand and cope better under that machine while having fun. The Base 2 comfort in roll and pitch is very high! The trim speed with the same loading as the two Rook 3 beside me is slightly higher on the Base2. The gliding in moving air was done more than 4 times and 5 km glide while the Rooks pushed slightly on the bar to match my trim speed. While on the bar, it seems that the C steering is quite smooth, efficient, and easy to use, and I was able to control the glider quite well with total tranquillity in most conditions. Big ears are easy to hold, stable, efficient, with around -3m/s with bar. The releasing of the ears will enable Base 2 to reopen by itself in a gradual and smooth way. I took BGD Base 2 for a lazy Saturday test flight. And what can I say, it was awesome! Great performance in an easy to fly package. I just cruised everywhere on full bar. Just a beautiful glider for anyone in the B category. Malcolm Hughson

Got to fly the base 2 on the weekend. It's epic. Coastal traverses were so much easier with the glide efficiency and extra speed. Only needed 10-15cm of brake travel for turns. Thanks again. Very happy customer. Luke Thomson

Hey Martin! I’ve finally had a chance to get a few good flights in on on the BGD Base 2 lite I got off of you! Only soaring flights so far, but awesome nonetheless. I’m absolutely loving this wing - the feel and performance of it are just incredible and really confidence-inspiring. Thanks, man! Riley Freebody

Most of my xc flights have been in the company of C gliders including the Cure 2, Alpina 3, Skywalk Spice and Flow Fusion. The handling for its class is top-notch and up there with other recent high B gliders like the Chilli 5. As I've mentioned in other posts, a big tick for me is a glider that holds the turn in a thermal without getting pushed out of the core of wanting to flatten out. The Base 2 certainly does this. It has excellent agility without being too tiring to thermal. It turns nicely with the first part of the brake travel or you can really crank it in tight cores without it wanting to dive. The wing climbs nicely and is up there with the Current C gliders. Link to full review by Down Under Paraglider Reviews

Target
The Base 2 is a cross-country paraglider with the perfect balance of performance, handling, comfort and safety. In short, it is utterly confidence-inspiring. Its performance will guide you onwards across that tricky crossing and upwards in that weak lift, inspiring further confidence in your own performance. The Base 2 will flatter your flying, and help you get the best out of the day. Its clear feedback about the air and conditions makes it easy to fly actively, and it will respond quickly and precisely to your inputs. It’s the perfect partner for XC adventures!

Bruce's Notes
The new arc design and technologies in the Base 2 have allowed us to make big increases in performance, but without losing that all-important direct, playful BGD handling. We’ve upped the cell count to 57 and increased roll stability, while the sail and line tension are fine-tuned to achieve a perfectly balanced feel in the air.

Many R&D hours have gone into perfecting the smallest details. By developing a new multi-reefing brake system, we’ve sharpened the brakes in the first part of the range to give precise control with small brake movements, while the overall brake range remains long for safety.

We’ve remodelled the risers to improve the C-steering, with an additional 'speed riser’ that links into the speed system. We’ve been careful to avoid the pilot hanging from a pulley, which can be an issue for some C-steering designs.

The Base 2 has the double leading-edge design that we used in the Cure 2 which ensures the leading edge stays solid, even when you’re on full bar. Cord cut billow panel shaping means a clean, smooth and crease-free top surface. We combined our high-tech airflow simulation software with low-tech tufts and a camera, enabling us to refine the wingtip ribs for optimal aerodynamic performance.
